The Whipple’s procedure (pancreaticoduodenectomy) treats tumours of the head of the pancreas, lower bile duct or duodenum. Other operations include distal pancreatectomy and surgery for chronic pancreatitis.
Bile-duct surgery clears or repairs ducts blocked or damaged by stones, strictures, injury or tumours, and reconnects them to the bowel where needed to restore bile flow.
Bile-duct injury — sometimes a complication of earlier gallbladder surgery — needs specialist HPB repair for the best long-term result.

The Whipple’s procedure (pancreaticoduodenectomy) is a major operation for tumours of the head of the pancreas, lower bile duct or duodenum. It removes the affected organs and reconstructs the digestive and bile pathways.
Liver resection is well-established. The liver can regrow, so the part containing disease can be removed if enough healthy liver remains. Careful imaging determines what can be removed safely.
Many HPB operations can be performed by laparoscopic or robotic technique in suitable patients, which can reduce pain and speed recovery. The approach is chosen after assessing your condition.
Recovery depends on the operation. Major resections need a hospital stay and a graded recovery over several weeks; your surgeon will explain what to expect for your procedure.
